If you’re reading this, then you are probably in the midst of stressing yourself ragged whilst trying to plan the perfect hen party for your bridal friend! The honour and responsibility alone are a huge weight on somebody’s shoulders, but now is your time to shine!
There are many ways you can make a hen party memorable, without having to break the bank at the same time. It’s all about knowing your friend and organising a night that centres around her interests and hobbies. Harry Potter mad? How about a trip to the studios with cocktails afterwards? Love the seaside? Try a Blackpool-based hen party with cocktails! See the common theme here? Cocktails!
With any stag do or hen party, alcohol is usually a primary requirement. You can spend all your time and effort picking the perfect idea, thinking outside the box or just going crazy – but a session of fruity cocktails will always be a safe bet! So, why not combine the two with this neat little idea? Make your own hen party cocktails!
Let’s have a gander at some of the most common/famous cocktails, shall we? It’s nice to learn something new every day!
Starting with arguably the most famous, the Cosmopolitan. It’s everybody’s go-to safe choice because it includes vodka – and who doesn’t love vodka!? Here’s the ingredients you need:
- 50ml vodka (brand not important)
- 25ml triple sec
- Splash of lime juice
- Splash of cranberry juice
- 1 cup of ice
- 1 lime wedge for garnish
See how the main ingredient there, measure wise, is the vodka? It’s a drink not for the faint hearted. But for a hen party with a Hollywood flourish, this cocktail is written in the stars for enjoyment. Combine the ingredients together in a cocktail shaker and pour into a chilled cocktail glass. Add the lime wedge and there you have it – a drink fit for your perfect bride!
Sex on the Beach
Ah, sex on the beach. The cocktail that inspired 90’s euphoria on the dancefloor. After a short while, this cocktail may, inevitably, make you faceplant that very same dancefloor – but that’s all part of the fun! Here’s how to make this particular head-banging classic:
- 50ml vodka
- 25ml peach schnapps
- 40ml orange juice
- 20ml cranberry juice
With these ingredients, fill a glass with ice cubes. Should you want a stronger taste, lower the level of ice. Next, pour the peach schnapps, vodka, cranberry juice and orange juice into a shaker or straight into the glass. Afterwards, either pour from the shaker to the glass or stir if you’ve poured the ingredients straight in, unmixed.
Long Island Iced Tea
Next up, the classic Long Island Iced Tea. There’s a lot of alcohol in this cocktail and that’s why we love it! Responsibly though, of course!
- 15ml vodka
- 15ml rum
- 15ml gin
- 15ml tequila
- 15ml triple sec (orange-flavoured if possible)
- 25ml sweet and sour mix (or orange/lemon juice mix)
- Splash of cola
- 1 lemon slice
What you’re going to want to do is fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the ingredients listed above (minus the lemon slice and cola) cover the shaker and…well, shake!
Once it’s mixed together better than the latest grime mixtape, pour into a Collins glass and splash with cola for added colour. Finish off the creation with the lemon slice and voila! A Long Island Iced Tea to die for.
If you like Pina Coladas and getting caught in the…you know where we’re going with this. But seriously, if this drink is to your liking, here’s how you can recreate the fruity, creamy wonder!
- 6-7 chunks of pineapple
- 1 tbsp coconut cream
- 50ml white rum
- 50ml fresh pineapple juice
- 1 tsp sugar
- Pineapple triangle to garnish
Apart from the pineapple garnish, stick all of the above ingredients into a blender to achieve that right, creamy texture. Once blended, pour into a nice, chilled glass. To achieve the maximum level of satisfaction, a frozen glass makes it even better! Either way, once your Pina Colada is poured, add the pineapple garnish and serve. Hey presto, a drink that is sure to win over your bridal comrades!
So we’ve had a look at four of the most common cocktails on a night out, in particular a hen party. But rather than relying upon the bar staff to service your alcoholic shenanigans, why not combine the two activities together? Here’s how!
Cocktail Making Classes
Making cocktails looks simplistic but getting the taste and measures just right takes practice and experience. If you ever fancied a chance to work behind the bar of a club or pub, but didn’t like the idea of sticky fingers and drunken punters, maybe cocktail making classes is more suitable.
With these classes, you get to learn the ins-and-outs of cocktail making, whilst having cheeky little taster sessions, too! Think of it like wine tasting, just with a lot more variety of alcohol involved! So how does this tie in with hen parties? Well, for the ultimate range of hen party packages, you can include cocktail making into the evening’s activities! Consider it your pre-drinks for the night ahead.
What You Could Learn
Learning is always a fantastic life-skill and the range of knowledge you can pick up in your life is incredible. You learn to cook, clean and drive. Some other activities include singing, dancing, special skilled professions like plumbing and decorating. All of these activities include a level of learning.
Cocktail making is no different. You pick up vital knowledge surrounding alcohol measures, the equipment you use, the wide range of ingredients available at your disposal. The neat little tricks you see the cocky bartenders attempting (and most of the time, failing) could become part of your party trick repertoire!
Granted, you’re probably not going to take these new skills into the field of hospitality anytime soon, but just think of the fun you can have with your girlfriends, all whilst celebrating the sanctimony of love. Scratch that last part, just start downing the vodka! Responsibly, of course!
